In its bid to end terrorism, the Katsina State Government has commenced training for the first batch of the 3,000 Special Vigilante Corps at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) College of Peace and Disaster Management.
The Special Adviser on Security Matters in the State, Ahmed Ibrahim Katsina made the disclosure at the inaugural ceremony of the first batch of the trainees.
Ahmed Katsina noted that the first batch which consist of 600 corps selected from all works of life will be trained in weapons handling, armed combat and also to assist in intelligence information gathering.
According to the security expert, the training is borne out of the desire of Governor Aminu Bello Masari’s led government to compliment the efforts of conventional security agencies in alleviating the plight of communities from the ripple effect of banditry and other security challenges being experienced in the state.
The Commandant of the Civil Defence College of Peace and Disaster Management, ACG Babangida Dutsinma, assured of the commitment of the college to provide effective training for the vigilante corps.
Babangida expressed optimism that the current strategies adopted by the state government will soon yield peace across the state, worthy of emulation by others.
