The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has announced significant improvements in power supply following the repair and restoration of its vandalized Uguwaji-Apir 330kV Transmission Line 2.
The line, which had been out of service since October 21, 2024, was successfully restored, enabling KEDCO to distribute more electricity to customers in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states.

The company earlier restored Line 1 of the transmission network on October 30, 2024, though with load limitations. With both lines now operational, KEDCO has increased its capacity to meet the energy demands of its franchise states.
In a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications, Sani Sani, KEDCO’s Managing Director and CEO, Abubakar Yusuf, highlighted the company’s efforts to enhance energy security.
He stated, “In addition to the national grid supply, KEDCO is partnering with state governments and mini-grid developers to enhance energy security within the network and eliminate absolute dependence on the grid, through embedded generation.”
Abubakar Yusuf further explained the role of the company’s core investor, Future Energies Africa (FEA), in driving socio-economic development across the region. “FEA is determined to enhance the socio-economic standing of the people in the tri-state of our operations, and this will be achieved through accelerated electrification projects to support the current efforts of the Federal Government and regulator towards sustainable growth of the power sector,” he added.
The statement also highlighted the progress of KEDCO’s ongoing ‘Utility 2.0’ and ‘Safe Grid’ projects, which are expected to deliver over 100MW of combined generation. This initiative aims to provide improved energy security and reliability to complement the bulk supply received from the national grid.
“We complement the efforts of the Transmission Company of Nigeria. Notwithstanding the push by KEDCO for more embedded generation solutions, we intend to maintain our close relationship and supply from the National Grid through the TCN for bulk supply. TCN’s success is all of our success,” the statement concluded.
