The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has inaugurated a taskforce to enforce payment of electricity bills and check those that bypass their meter fraudulently.

Mr Ibrahim Shawai, Head of Corporate Communications of KEDCO, disclosed this in a statement he issued to newsmen on Wednesday in Kano.

According to the statement, KEDCO franchise covers Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa .

“The idea of the taskforce is due to the attitudes of some customers who often refuse to pay their bills after enjoying our services and such act has resulted to some financial challenges for our company.
“The task force has been empowered to ensure that current and outstanding bills are collected to enable the company to improve on the power supply.
“The taskforce will also check issues of meter bypass, illegal connections, energy theft, and other forms of sabotage,” the statement read.
Shawai said that anyone found engaging in any forms of sabotage would be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the land.
He appealed to customers to remain vigilant on all installations and ensure that their meters are properly protected against vandals.
He also appealed that the metering initiative aimed at ending estimated billing, but giving customers the opportunity to pay for what they consume, is still ongoing. (NAN)
