Christopher Eleghu, the Labour Party (LP) candidate for Imo State’s Onuimo State Constituency, was reportedly shot dead by unidentified gunmen.

He was murdered in his home on Thursday night.

According to reports, armed men set fire to the late politician’s house and properties, also known as “WASCO” among his political associates.

“After killing the man, they set fire to his house and belongings. “By the time residents of the community discovered him dead in the morning after the attack, his corpse was found lying on the floor with deep wounds,” a source said.

The assassination of Eleghu comes just a few weeks after Chukwunonye Irouno, another LP candidate in the Okigwe zone of the state, died in mysterious circumstances, The Nation reports.

Imo State Police Command has yet to issue a statement about the incident.
