The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have temporarily suspended their strike for 5 days, following a fruitful meeting with the Federal Government in Abuja on Monday night.
The strike, which began on Monday, was called to protest the government’s failure to approve a new minimum wage and reverse the recent electricity tariff hike.

Vanguard reports that this new development was disclosed by a top source among the labour union leaders under the condition of anonimity.
According to a leader of the NLC, the centres will issue a statement shortly, and negotiations with the government are set to commence.
Daily News 24 reported the Federal Government’s commitment towards establishing a National Minimum Wage higher than N60,000, and the Tripartite Committee will meet daily to finalize an agreeable wage.
The labour unions have agreed to consider this new offer and hold meetings of their organs, with assurance that no worker will face victimization for participating in the industrial action.
