A Grade I Area Court in Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 24-year-old laburer, Muhammed Musa, to nine months imprisonment for stealing N7,000 cash and a cell phone.
Musa pleaded guilty to theft and begged for leniency.
The Judge,  Sulyman Ola , however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N10,000, and  ordered him to pay N10,000 as compensation to the complainant.

Ola warned the convict to desist from committing crimes.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Chinedu Ogada, told the court that the complainant, Muktar Yusfu, of Katampe Extension, Abuja reported the matter at Dawaki Police April 1.
Ogada said that on March 31 at about 2.40 p.m, the convict sneaked into the complainant’s shop in Katampe an d stole  his cell phone and N7,000 cash.
Ogada said that during police interrogation and investigation, the convict confessed that he sold the phone for N2,000 to an unnamed buyer.
The prosecutor said all effort made to recover the stolen items failed. (NAN)
