The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has provided an update on Adetutu Adedokun, the DSS employee who jumped into the Lagos Lagoon.

Adedokun jumped into the Lagos Lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge on Thursday after a heated argument with her fiancé.

In a statement, LASEMA Permanent Secretary Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu stated that the lady had not been rescued from the Lagoon as some reports claimed.

He stated that rescuers had given up on a rescue mission and were now fighting to recover her body from the lagoon.

Oke-Osanyintolu went on to say that investigations had failed to turn up the driver of the car in which she was riding prior to the unfortunate incident.

“Update on alleged suicide attempt on Third Mainland Bridge,” he says. “The body of an adult female, Adetutu Adedokun, who was reported by eyewitnesses to have jumped into the lagoon has yet to be recovered.”

“The lady is said to be a Department of State Services employee.”

The driver of the car she was in prior to the unfortunate incident has not been found, according to investigations.

The response team has switched from rescue to recovery mode, and they are now observing the tide and relying on locals for any useful information.

Adetutu Adedokun, a staff member of the Department of State Services, has been identified as the woman who jumped into the Lagos Lagoon on Thursday.

According to Channels Television, office sources revealed that Adedokun was an unarmed combat instructor. She was also said to have recently gotten engaged.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said in a statement on Thursday that the taxi driver claimed she was having a heated conversation with her fiancé before alighting and jumping into the lagoon.

Oke-Osanyintolu stated again on Friday that the search and rescue team was still on the water looking for the body.

Adedokun, who is in her late 30s, was also said to have received a letter of commendation from the Director General of DSS a few months ago for being the best-unarmed combat operative in her set.

A few weeks ago, the victim’s fiancé was also reported to have proposed to her. She jumped into the lagoon Thursday afternoon after alighting from an Uber taxi car on the bridge. The taxi driver claimed she was having an argument with her fiance before getting out of the car.

Oke-Osayintolu, according to the PUNCH, said on Thursday, “Upon the arrival of the Lagos Response Team at the incident scene, investigation revealed that a lady in her late 30s plunged into the Lagos lagoon.”

“Further investigation revealed that the lady jumped into the lagoon after alighting from an Uber taxi car on the bridge.”

“The taxi driver claimed she was having an argument with her fiancé before getting out of the car.

“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, LASWA, and officials from the Department of State Services are currently working together on the ground to search for the victim.”

Gbenga Omotosho, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, stated that rescue teams were unable to locate the victim despite extensive search and rescue efforts.

“The rescue teams called off their search by 7 p.m. because it was already dark,” he said. They will continue the search tomorrow (Friday); because it is water, the body would have been washed away. But we’ll look everywhere.”
