The Lagos state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied reports that the party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, threw wads of Naira notes at a crowd on February 21.

Tinubu was in Lagos for his grand finale rally at Surulere’s Teslim Balogun Stadium.

The Lagos APC, through its spokesman Seye Oladejo, said the report that Tinubu threw wads of cash at the crowd was “nothing but a lie from the pit of hell.”

Oladejo said the report was sponsored by “frustrated political opponents”.

“According to a currently trending post, Asiwaju Tinubu threw wads of banknotes to a cheering crowd at Oshodi as his motorcade rode past from Lagos airport en route Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos,” the statement read in part.

It’s part of the smear campaign against Tinubu and the Lagos APC. The report, according to the APC’s Lagos state chapter, is “part of an ongoing well-oiled campaign of calumny in a compromised section of the media to project Asiwaju in bad light at a time when millions of Nigerians are unable to access their hard-earned cash deposited in banks.”

“Asiwaju has championed the cause of long-suffering Nigerians by allowing them to spend old bank notes until the CBN is able to make adequate bank notes available. So, where will Asiwaju find new notes to throw on Lagos highways?

“We’ll put an end to Tinubu’s reign in Lagos,” Peter Obi’s running mate says. “Normally, we would have dismissed this infantile lie given its source (one of the cheap bloggers hired by political opponents now traumatized by the APC’s impending victory on February 25). But we chose to make this brief statement in order to protect the gullible from being duped by such cheap spin.

“A closer look at the accompanying short video (attached to the referenced fake report) will clearly show that two APC leaders are the ones throwing branded APC fez caps and leaflets to the cheering crowd. Certainly not, as Naira observes.

As a result, the party urged its supporters and other Nigerians to remain calm and vote on Saturday, February 25, for Tinubu and all APC candidates.
