The Lagos State government has announced the launch of its on-street parking scheme, set to begin in October. This new initiative will introduce hourly charges for cars parked on designated streets, aiming to regulate parking and reduce congestion in the metropolis.

A notice from the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), dated July 19 and signed by the Head of Operations, Ayokunle Akinrimisi, was addressed to the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) branch chairman. The notice detailed the upcoming changes and the enforcement measures that will be taken against indiscriminately parked cars.

“I am directed to inform your revered organization that the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) will be commencing its on-street parking scheme at designated streets within the Lagos State metropolis,” the notice stated. “Vehicles parked on designated streets by the church and its members will be charged hourly, and indiscriminately parked vehicles will be enforced upon accordingly.”

LASPA emphasized the importance of compliance with the directive from law-abiding organizations, although the notice did not specify the exact fees to be charged for parking.

The implementation of this scheme underscores the government’s efforts to manage urban traffic and ensure orderly parking practices, particularly around high-traffic areas such as religious institutions.

For further updates and specific details on the fees, residents and organizations are advised to stay informed through official LASPA communications.
