An Ilorin-based legal practitioner, Mr Ibrahim Suleiman, has called on newsmen to extend their coverage to rural areas and not only focus on cities and major towns.
Suleiman, who made the call in Ilorin on Thursday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said that the people in the rural areas also deserved media attention.
According to him, the people in the rural settlements should not be abandoned because they also have equal rights with the people residing in the cities.

“Much focus is mainly on the people residing in the cities while people at the rural settlements don’t enjoy much media attention.
“The people at the rural area also deserve to be heard. They are also Nigerians. Give them full coverage and special attention.
“They also lack portable water, lack electricity supply, basic health facilities, have bad roads and poor service network,” he advised.
The lawyer, however, commended the newsmen for discharging their duties and acting as middle men between the masses and the government.
He advised the newsmen to do more and never allow themselves to be threatened by any group or government officials.
“The masses only rely on you as their mouth piece.
“They see you as the only link to the government.
“So, be responsible and discharge your duties without fear,” he said. (NAN)
