A shocking incident unfolded in the Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State as a 32-year-old man, identified as Samson Sikiru, allegedly strangled his mother to death.
The suspect, who is suspected of being a drug addict, committed the heinous act at their residence in the Itanrin area.
Confirming the distressing incident, Omotola Odutola, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, stated, “Samson Sikiru is still in police custody, but nothing much has been gotten from him, as he has not answered any coherent questions put across to him.”
According to reports, the suspect had been battling drug addiction for a considerable period and was under the care of his now-deceased mother.
It is believed that the suspect’s drug use may have played a role in the tragic event.
The suspect’s younger brother, who worked as a night guard and was returning from his shift, discovered their mother’s lifeless body.
Alarmed by the situation, he promptly alerted the neighbors to the grim discovery.
Samson, who had been away for several years, had returned to celebrate the recent Ileya festival with his mother just two weeks ago.
However, it is alleged that he carried out the fatal act.Neighbors, upon learning that Samson was responsible for his mother’s demise, apprehended him and subsequently handed him over to the police.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Omotola Odutola, confirmed that the suspect is also a neuropsychiatric patient.
It was revealed that family members would occasionally restrain him to prevent self-harm or harm to others.
While the motive behind the tragic incident remains unclear, preliminary investigations indicate that earlier on the same day, Samson had been restrained within the house.
However, he somehow became uncontrollable and turned his aggression towards his mother, strangling her.Upon the arrival of SP Murphy, the Divisional Police Officer, the lifeless body of the mother was found on the bed.
Upon closer examination, signs of violence were apparent, including lacerations on her right leg, suggesting a forceful and violent attack.
