A Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded a 42-year-old man, Ekene Agha, to Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl.
The police arraigned Agha on two counts of indecent assault and defilement.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Peter Nwaka, did not take the defendant’s plea.
Nwaka ordered Agha to be remanded in the correctional center until March 15, for the Director of Public Prosecutions’ advice.
The prosecutor, Inspector Thomas Nurudeen, told the court that the offense was committed on January 6, 2023, around 3.30 p.m., at No. 40 Ago Palace Road, Okota, Lagos State.
He said the offenses were punishable under Sections 261 and 135 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The charge read in part, “That you, Ekene Agha, on January 6, 2023, around 3.30 pm, at No. 40 Ago Palace Road, Okota, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did indecently treat one (name withheld), a child of three years, by inserting your finger into her and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 135 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.”
Punch reports that the suspect and the victim’s mother are co-workers.
