The Kano Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) has secured the conviction and sentencing of one Suleiman Bello Abubakar before Justice Jamilu Shehu Suleiman of the Kano State High Court on a two-count charge of cheating.
The convict was indicted for obtaining N1, 240,000 in a fraudulent land deal. He claimed to be the owner of two plots of Land located at Tudun Yola Quarters Kano with number 1145TP/KAS/215B and 2525CTP/KAS/215A for which the complainant paid him a cash sum of N740, 000 and N500,000 respectively.
Subsequent enquiry at the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning Kano, revealed that the said plots do not exist.
The defendant was convicted after he pleaded guilty to the two counts brought against him. Justice Suleiman sentenced him to three months imprisonment.

One of the counts reads, “That you, Sulaiman Bello Abubakar, sometime in 2016 at Kano, Kano State within the Jurisdiction of this Honorable Court with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of Seven Hundred Thousand Naira only (N700,000.00) being the purchase price in respect of plot number 1145TP/KAS/215B located at Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano State, the fact which you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 1 (b) and punishable under section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006”.
