A 27-year-old marketer, John Akpa, was on Monday docked in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for alleged N360,000 cryptocurrency fraud.
The police charged the defendant, a marketer, who resides at Mopo Akinland area, Ajah, Lagos with conspiracy, fraud and obtaining by false pretences.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Felicia Okwori, told the court that the offence was committed between June 24 and June 29 at Ajah area, Lagos.
Okwori said that the defendant obtained N360,000 from Mrs Susan Ekechukwu on false pretences that he was going to help her to invest it in an online cryptocurrency in investment.
The prosecutor also said that since then, the complainant has been calling the defendant to show her evidence of payment and how she will go about the trading.
Okwori said that all efforts to collect her money failed.
The offence, he said, contravenes the provisions of sections 280, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr L. O Owolabi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Owolabi adjourned the case until Oct. 28 for mention.
