As Ramadan, the annual Islamic fasting season begins, prices of various items have decreased in Kano and its environs.

Muslims around the globe try to get every blessing from Ramadan as rewards multiply.

A recent market survey by Daily News 24 observed that the prices of goods and services have reduced in major Malls of Kano state.

Tijjani Labaran, the Manager of Jifatu Supermarkets in Kano, said the mart has cut off the prices of its products by some percentage.

“Jifatu Stores is known for selling items from groceries to general merchandise. They are distinguished for reducing the prices of their goods every Ramadan. This is a constant habit as we seek the blessings of this holy month,” he said.

“It is usually an instruction from the CEO Alh. Muhammad Sabitu Yahaya to lessen the price of everything from popcorn to the most expensive thing sold in our mart, especially our old stock.

He added that about 30% are reduced from each product.

 

Aliyu Idris Abubakar, A Director at Mudassir and Brothers, a popular fashion fabric store in Kano, said the management had reduced the prices of their fabrics to a minimal amount despite the increase in the dollar exchange rate.

He expressed that most of the products are imported from abroad, but considered lowering the prices despite the hard times.

“Most businessmen tend to be patient with the bit of gain they get, because of the continuous increase in products, but we still ease the cost for our customers this month.

“We reduced the prices of some fabrics across all our stores this month of Ramadan, we deducted 200 to 2000 in some of our products, since clothes vary, for example, the lace of #10,000 is now sold for 8,000 to 8,500”. He noted.

Aliyu Adam Ibrahim, the Manager of El-Samad stores in Ibrahim Taiwo road Kano, noted that their store had reduced the prices of their goods despite the challenges they face with the rise of the dollar.

Aliyu said ”we have reduced about 2% in our goods, such as Laces, Gowns, Ankara wears. Some laces were sold at the rate of 10,000, which is now at 6,000, and we will continue to sell at this rate until after Sallah.

“Is not about what we will get. It’s about the blessings of the holy month of Ramadan.

“Ramadan is a holy month in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community”.

Aliyu advised fellow businessmen to try and seek the blessings of the month by reducing their services’ prices and encouraged fellow business people to watch out for thieves that disguise themselves as customers.
