The Zamfara State governor, Bello Mohammed Matawalle has directed the reassessment of the houses affected by flood for future possible reclamation.

This is contained in a statement issued by the New Media Aide to the Governor, Abdulwali Anwar Tahir on Friday at Gusau.

He stated that one of the worst-hit areas is the Hayin Mallam Sani Area in Gusau, the state Capital due to the potential dangers of flooding where one hundred houses each on either sides are built on watersheds, totalling 200 are exposed to flooding annually.

The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner of Environment and Solid Mineral Resources, Dr Noor Isah Gusau toured and reassessed the Hayin Mallam Sani Area of Gusau Metropolis.

During the tour, Mr Isah explained that the administration of Governor Bello Matawalle is determined to enhance the environment in the state and make it more decent for the human habitat.

Similarly, Dr Gusau also recalled that the governor has successfully paid the sum of one-billion-naira counterpart funds to ensure that the state is not left behind in the World Bank Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project for Nigeria; a programme aimed at increasing the implementation of sustainable landscape management practices in targeted watersheds in northern Nigeria and strengthen Nigeria’s long-term enabling environment for integrated climate-resilient landscape management.

Feasibility studies according to him have been completed to include enhancing six Earth Dams in the state and improving of irrigation facilities for 50 hectares in Bakura, Birnin Magaji, Kaura Namoda, Bungudu, Gusau, and Gummi Local Governments of the state.

Furthermore, it will as well include the construction of 280 hectares of Nurseries in the 14 Local Government Areas of the state, designing of flood control site for the reclamation of 3,000 hectares at five sites that include Bardoki, Maradun, Kaura Namoda, Gusau, and Asako to Gidan Dangwari.
