Controversial TikToker Murja Ibrahim Kunya is seeking bail following her detention and a directive for a mental evaluation by an Upper Shariah Court in Kano state.
Earlier, Justice Nasiru Saminu had rejected Kunya’s bail request in a suit she brought forth to enforce her fundamental rights.
However, her legal representative, Barrister Yusuf Ali Faragai, has petitioned for her release, arguing that the alleged offense doesn’t warrant prolonged detention.
Faragai also insisted on obtaining information about Kunya’s condition from the defendants to ensure her well-being, emphasizing that the prosecution must produce her before the court.

The defendants named in the lawsuits include the Kano State Attorney General, Kano Hisbah Board, and Kano State Shari’ah Court and Kwana Hudu.
However, the defense counsel, Barrister H. H. Suleiman, objected to the bail application, arguing that it constitutes an abuse of the court process since a similar plea had been made before a state high court.
In response to the arguments, Justice Abdullahi M Liman postponed the case to March 28, 2024, for a ruling, allowing both parties time to prepare their arguments and await the court’s decision.
