Argentina captain Lionel Messi has stated that the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar will be his final appearance.

Messi stated this in his pre-match press conference on Monday, ahead of Argentina’s World Cup opener against Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

Last year, the 35-year-old assisted Argentina in winning the Copa America trophy.

“I did nothing different; I just took care of myself,” Messi explained.

“I’ve worked the same way I’ve worked my entire career.

“This is a special occasion, most likely my final World Cup.” “This is my last chance to make my dream, our dream, a reality.”
