Mixed reactions have trailed the decision of Amaju Pinnick to step down after his tenure expires as the Nigerian Football Federation president.

Earlier, the NFF boss had said he would run for a third term in office but in a surprising revelation, he backed out today, when he made the announcement while speaking on Arise TV.

“I am eligible to run (for another term as NFF President), based on the statutes. Do I want to run, at this moment? It’s a no-no, because my family say so. They say I have put in my all, I have given my best and it is time to move on. ” – Amaju Pinnick said.

Reactions, as Pinnick makes a U-Turn

The Nigerian social media space has been talking about the unexpected move of the NFF boss. Below are reactions from Nigerian football fans.

@iamdynamique said ”Don’t believe NFF under the leadership of Amaju Pinnick, they are liars & playing politics with Nigeria football. I can bet that stripping Oshoala off the captaincy armband is not about her performance rather it’s political.”

@pahpies posted ”The NFF president Mr Amaju Pinnick won’t be contesting for a third term at the glasshouse. Hopefully anyone who takes over will tighten his / her loins to get Nigerian football back on track. I think a female administrator should contest for d position n lets move on from there.”

”Amaju Pinnick: I am eligible to run(for the third term as NFF president). Do I want to run? It’s a no no because my family says no at the moment Me: I don’t trust Amaju Pinnick.. you can never tell. ” @Mosesoflife wrote.
@seercndavid twitted ”Amaju Pinnick should be sacked from the NFF. His long overdue stay is causing the football house setbacks. He’s no longer productive.”

@ogunmilorokenny twitted ”I wrote about 6 reasons why Nigeria must qualify for d #WorldCup2022 just before d #NigGha games I mentioned Amaju Pinnick 3rd term ambition would die if we don’t qualify, well,he has announced he would step down after his 2nd term Thank u Mrs Pinnick for talking to ur husband.”

@8oneder said ”Enough of sweet mouth Amaju Pinnick. Has to be the best news for Nigerian football. It could be worse though if any of his Vices indicate interest. Then the cycle continues. I pray that won’t be the case.”

@psalmchu said ”Na shame catch you PINNICK if NIGERIA had qualified for world cup will your family say you shouldn’t run for 3rd term? Atleast your tenure end this year” !!!
