French Première Ligue club Montpellier HSC has announced the signing of Super Falcons striker Ifeoma Onumonu. With this move, Onumonu becomes the first Nigerian player in the history of Montpellier Hérault Sport Club Féminines.
The transfer follows a mutual departure from Utah Royals, where Onumonu, a 2024 Olympian, was released to join Montpellier HSC as a free agent.
Her arrival addresses the club’s need for an experienced forward to complement their young attacking talent, including Esther Mbakem Niaro (22), Nina Ngueleu (20), Lola Gstalter (19), and Elisa Rambaud (18).

Onumonu, originally from California, United States, was traded to Utah Royals from NY/NJ Gotham FC in December 2023. Her time at Utah was limited to just five appearances due to an ankle injury and frequent national team duties.
In July 2024, Onumonu was added to Nigeria’s 18-player roster for the Olympic Games in France, replacing the injured midfielder Halimatu Ayinde.
During the tournament, she played a total of 54 minutes, including 24 minutes off the bench against Brazil and 30 minutes against Spain, the world champions.
For the upcoming 2024-2025 season, Onumonu will wear the number 11 shirt at Montpellier HSC.
