The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert on the recall of a specific batch of Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on Deodorant (50ml).
This product, promoted as offering 48-hour protection under African climate conditions, is under recall due to safety risks linked to one of its ingredients.

The recall affects batch number 93529610, which reportedly contains 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde (BMHCA), a chemical prohibited in cosmetic products. NAFDAC highlighted that this compound could pose risks to reproductive health, harm unborn babies, and potentially cause skin irritation or burns.
“The recalled Nivea product is reported to contain 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde, a chemical prohibited in cosmetic products due to its potential to cause harm to the reproductive system, impair the health of an unborn child, and cause skin irritation and burns to users,” NAFDAC’s notice emphasized.
This warning follows an alert from the European Union’s Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products in Brussels. NAFDAC is urging importers, distributors, and retailers to be vigilant and ensure the affected batch does not circulate within the supply chain. Consumers are also advised to check for batch number 93529610 before purchasing.
Manufactured in Germany, the recalled deodorant carries the Bar Code Number 42299882. NAFDAC has called on the public to discontinue use of the batch in question and to submit any existing stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
Additionally, NAFDAC encouraged healthcare professionals and consumers to report adverse reactions related to regulated products through multiple channels: email at [email protected], the E-reporting platform at www.nafdac.gov.ng, or the Med-Safety app, available for download on Android and iOS devices.
