The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 34 suspects during a raid on several notorious drug dens as part of efforts to ensure a safe and drug-free environment for the festive season.

NDLEA spokesperson, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, revealed in a statement on Wednesday that the arrests took place on December 24 during a crackdown on drug hotspots, including Fagge Area, Sani Abacha Stadium, Danagundi, and the notorious Filin Idi drug den.

The state Commander, Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, stated that the operation led to the recovery of illicit substances such as cannabis sativa, “suck and die,” and Exol-5, along with weapons reportedly used by drug peddlers to intimidate and attack officers.

“We successfully dislodged several drug joints and recovered illicit substances from the drug dens. The drug users apprehended during the raid will receive necessary counseling and support to aid their recovery,” Idris-Ahmad said.

He emphasized that the operation underscores the NDLEA’s dedication to dismantling drug networks and curbing the distribution of harmful substances, especially during the festive period.

Investigations are ongoing, and those found guilty of trafficking or abusing illicit substances will face prosecution.

“We will continue to eradicate the menace of drug abuse from the streets of Kano and promote awareness about the dangers of substance abuse. Community cooperation is essential in this fight,” Idris-Ahmad added.

On behalf of the NDLEA’s Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa, the commander extended wishes for a peaceful Christmas celebration and a drug-free New Year festival to Kano residents.
