Military chiefs from West African nations have gathered in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, to discuss the recent military juntas in the Republic of Niger.

The meeting, currently taking place at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, involves several nations in the region.

As the meeting commenced, it was observed that representatives from Mali, Guinea Bissau, Niger, and Burkina Faso were absent, leaving their seats vacant.

In attendance are military chiefs from Togo, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Guinea, Gambia, Cote d’Ivoire, Cape Verde, and the Republic of Benin, as reported by Daily Trust.

Leading the proceedings is the chairman of the ECOWAS military chiefs, Gen. Christopher Musa. This gathering comes in response to the Economic Community of West African States’ (ECOWAS) ultimatum, issued on Sunday, demanding the restoration of democratic order in Niger within one week, under the threat of possible military action.
