President Bola Tinubu and President Teodoro Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea finalized a major agreement on the Gulf of Guinea Pipeline Project on Wednesday in Malabo.
This agreement, which encompasses “legislative and regulatory measures for the gas pipeline, establishment and operation, transit of natural gas, ownership of the gas pipeline, and general principles,” marks a significant milestone in their mutual development efforts.
The deal highlights a commitment to enhancing gas exploration and job creation. During his three-day official visit, Tinubu and Mbasogo discussed various issues, including employment, food security, multilateral relations, and conflict resolution in Africa.

Tinubu emphasized the need for internal solutions to the continent’s conflicts, drawing comparisons with conflict resolution practices in Europe and America. He also addressed security challenges, the African Continental Free Trade Area, and the importance of self-reliance in tackling Africa’s problems.
President Mbasogo praised the longstanding cooperation between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea and underscored the strategic importance of the agreement for Africa’s development. He also supported Africa’s push for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.
The agreement was signed by Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar and Equatorial Guinea’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Simeon Oyono Esono.
Also present were Nigerian officials including Chief Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, Minister of Defence Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, Minister of Interior Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of State for Petroleum, Gas Ekperikpe Ekpo, and Minister of Youth Development Dr. Jamila Ibrahim-Bio.
