Nigeria’s senior women’s football team, the Super Falcons, have maintained their 36th position in the latest FIFA global rankings, as announced on Friday, August 16, 2024.
Despite their recent challenges at the Women’s Summer Olympics in Paris, where they failed to advance beyond the group stage, the Super Falcons continue to be recognized as the leading women’s football team in Africa.

The team faced a tough time at the Olympics, suffering consecutive defeats in all three of their group matches. They were narrowly beaten 1-0 by both Brazil and Spain, followed by a 3-1 loss to Japan, leaving them at the bottom of Group C.
Nevertheless, Nigeria remains Africa’s highest-ranked women’s football team, ahead of South Africa (50th), Morocco (59th), Zambia (62nd), and Ghana (66th).
Globally, the top 10 teams in the latest FIFA rankings are the United States, England, Spain, Germany, Sweden, Canada, Japan, Brazil, Korea DPR, and France. Despite the recent setbacks, the Super Falcons’ continued presence as Africa’s top team underscores their enduring strength on the continent.
