The remains of Mrs Felicia Ohadiugha, the mother of the Nigerian Ambassador to the U.S., Amb. Uzoma Emenike was Saturday interred in her family house at Umule in Abia.
Speaking at a requiem mass in her honour at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Umule in Umuahia North Local Government Area, Rev. Fr. Sylvester Anyanwu advised Nigerians to fear God.
Anyanwu, the Parish Priest of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Eziama Ubakala, near Umuahia, also charged the people to appreciate that “death is real and there is heaven and hell.
“Mama’s death has brought all of us from different parts of the country to Umule, and we are again reminded that death is real.
“Let us endeavour to live a righteous life and avoid sin, which brought death to the world.
“At our individual levels, we believe there is heaven and hell, but are we prepared for heaven?
“This world is not our own. We came with nothing and shall leave with nothing.
“Whoever you are, whatever you are, and wherever you are, embrace God and realise that one day we shall all leave this world.
Anyanwu decried the state of insecurity in the country and urged Nigerians to embrace peace.
“The scripture says that God shall bless those who are peacemakers. So, let us have peace in our heart because death awaits all of us.
“Mama lived long and died at 92 because she had peace and took life easy,” the cleric said.
In a vote of thanks, the first son of the deceased, Mr Chukwuemeka Ohadiugha, described the nonagenarian as God-fearing, peace-loving, a devoted Catholic and community leader.
NAN reports that the Bishop of Umuahia Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Lucius Ugorji, led 17 other priests from the diocese to celebrate the funeral mass.
Governors and prominent Nigerians who attended the burial included Gov. Yahya Bello of Kogi, Gov. Hope Uzodinma of Imo and Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe.
Others were the Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Chief Uche Ogah, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, and chieftains of the All Progressives Congress in Abia. (NAN)
