Nigerian Army personnel successfully foiled an attack by members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on Monguno Local Government Area (LGA) in Borno State.

According to Zagazola Makama, a reputable counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the insurgents were met with resistance from the troops of Sector 3 multi-national joint task force (MNJTF).

Makama stated that the terrorists arrived at the location on Thursday, using several Hilux trucks mounted with anti-aircraft guns.

Some of the militants were also seen riding motorcycles, while others carried out the attack on foot at Charlie 6 in Monguno town.

Fortunately, the terrorists were forced to flee the location as a result of the army’s response.

In another significant development, a massive contingent of over 100 troops conducted a raid on bandits’ hideouts in Iche, Taka-Lafiya, Gidan Makeri, and Janjala communities in Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State.

According to reports, the bandits, who had fled from the far north, were attempting to establish new camps around certain villages in Kagarko.

However, they quickly dispersed into the forest to evade capture when the troops launched the raid on their hideouts.

Confirming the military operation, Onyema Nwachukwu, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, stated that the troops had conducted an operation in Kagarko on the previous Wednesday.
