CAF announced the initiative on Friday, stating, โ€œIn line with the Confรฉdรฉration Africaine de Football (CAF) President Dr Patrice Motsepeโ€™s promise to improve club competitions and provide more financial assistance to clubs, the clubs participating in the preliminary stages of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup will receive USD 50,000 each.โ€

The competition’s preliminary rounds began on Friday, with the prize money expected to increase substantially in subsequent stages. Nigerian clubs could earn up to $400,000 or $700,000 if they advance to the group stages. The champions of the CAF Champions League will receive $4,000, while the Confederation Cup winners will get $2,000.

El-Kanemi Warriors will kick off the action, facing Dadje FC of Benin Republic at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, on Saturday. Enyimba, a nine-time NPFL champion, has a bye in this round.

Enugu Rangers will play US Zilimadjou of Comoros at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on Sunday, while Remo Stars will host AS FAR Rabat of Morocco. Interestingly, Zilimadjou has also chosen the Godswill Akpabio Stadium as their home ground.
