1. EFCC arrests Fani-Kayode for alleged forgery

A former Minister of Aviation, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Lagos.

Fani-Kayode is said to be under investigation for alleged forgery and manipulation of documents.

2. Alleged extra judicial killing: Panel adjourns sitting

The Independent Investigation Panel investigating human rights violations by the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and other units of the police on Tuesday adjourned for the adoption of written addresses by both the prosecution and defence.

This move came after the police counsel, Mr Fidelis Ogbobe, told the panel that he had no witnesses to call.

The Panel Chairman, Justice Suleiman Galadima (Rtd.), had earlier directed the Commissioner of Police, Cross River and the Security Adviser to the State Governor to appear before it.

3. FG inaugurates enhanced e-passport in UK

The Federal Government has inaugurated enhanced e-passport to improve passport application process for Nigerians at home and abroad.

Mr Sola Fasure, the Media Adviser to the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, made known in a statement he issued on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to him, the minister made the disclosure at the official rollout of the enhanced e-passport at the Nigerian High Commission, London.

4. Kano, Lagos States demand 1 per cent in Revenue Allocation Formula — Ganduje

Gov Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, says Kano and Lagos States are demanding for 1 per cent in the new nation’s Revenue Allocation Formula.

The demand is contained in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Mr Abba Anwar, issued on Tuesday in Kano.

Anwar said that Ganduje made the case when his Lagos State counterpart, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, paid a condolence visit over the death of Aliko Dangote’s brother, Sani Dangote.

5. Buhari Suspends Inauguration Of NNPC Limited Board Indefinitely

President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended the inauguration of the newly constituted Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC).

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, announced this on Tuesday in a statement titled ‘Suspension of Inauguration of Newly Constituted Board Of NNPC LTD.’

He revealed that the inauguration of the Board, initially scheduled to hold on Wednesday, was suspended indefinitely.

The Federal Government has inaugurated enhanced e-passport to improve passport application process for Nigerians at home and abroad.

The minister, who revealed that the Nigerian passport was the highest affirmation of Nigerian citizenship, noted that it was the responsibility of the Federal Government to provide the passport without any stress and within a reasonable period.

7. Sanwo-Olu charges Africa, Pakistan on emerging technologies to improve business environment

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has charged the African Continent and the Pakistani Government to explore using emerging technologies to improve their trade and business environment.

Sanwo-Olu gave the charge during the 2nd Pakistan-Africa Trade Development Conference and Single Country Exhibition, on Tuesday on Victoria Island.

He said that it was an encouraging sign of the post pandemic recovery, that the world is finally opening up again, for travel, for business and for connection.

Sanwo-Olu said the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the global travel, affected trade, tourism, supply chain, even the way people greet and communicate.

8. FG halts oil company operation in Bayelsa

The Federal Government on Tuesday directed AITEO Eastern Exploration and Production Company Ltd. (AEEPCo), to stop operation of oilfield in Bayelsa State.

A statement by Mr Saghir el Mohammed, Press Director, Ministry of Environment, said this in Abuja, indicating that government has ordered that the company should not operate in the area until proper investigation is carried out and adequate measures put in place to ensure safety of lives and property.

According to him, this is a proactive measure to address the recent unfortunate oil spillage at Santa Barbara in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa state.

9. Disregard sentiment in establishment of more campuses of Nigerian Law School – Wike

Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, on Tuesday urged the Federal Government to disregard sentiments in establishing more campuses of the Nigerian Law School.

Wike stated this when members of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, led by its chairman, Sen. Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

Wike said approval for any new campus of the Nigerian Law School in the country should be based on needs assessment and not on political sentiment.

10. N656bn bailout to states again shows Buhari is a compassionate leader- BMO

President Muhammadu Buhari has again shown that he is a compassionate leader with his approval of a 4th multi-billion naira bailout for states in six years.

The Buhari Media Organisation said in a statement signed by its Chairman Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary Cassidy Madueke, that the decision to disburse N656billion to be shared among the 36 States as budget support facility was totally unexpected.
