PDP: More Details On Why Fayose’s Son, Others Were Suspended Emerge
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday suspended a former governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani.
Also suspended by the party leadership is the former Governor Ayo Fayose’s son, Oluwajomiloju, and other candidates of the PDP in Enugu, Imo and Ekiti States.
The PDP candidates were suspended over alleged links to anti-party activities.
Meanwhile, the latest update on the suspension shows that the affected candidates risk losing their right to contest the February and March elections.
A source that spoke with Vanguard on why the PDP chieftains were suspended said, “It wasn’t a meeting that took so much time because the issues were straightforward.
“Take the case of Senator Nnamani for example, he has not only been fraternizing with Asiwaju Tinubu the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, but he has also been campaigning for him and destabilizing our party in Enugu.
“Nnamani, who is seeking re-election into the Senate, has been at it despite several appeals to party members to abide by our rules.
Uncertainty heightens as FG denies fuel price hike
The Federal Government’s denial of any increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, has heightened the uncertainty over the cost of the commodity across the country.
DAILY POST had reported a PMS pump price adjustment.
However, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, in a statement issued by his media assistant, Horatius Egua, in Abuja on Friday, denied giving any directive to increase PMS.
“President Muhammadu Buhari, who doubled as the Minister of Petroleum Resources, has not approved any increase in the price of PMS or any other petroleum product.
“There is no reason for the President(Buhari) to renege on his earlier promise not to approve any increase in the price of PMS at this time,” he said.

January deadline: Discordant tunes over CBN’s new naira notes
On the very last day of this month, January 31, 2023, old naira notes of N200, N500 and N1,000 shall cease to be legal tenders in Nigeria. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has warned that there will be no extension of the deadline for the use of the old notes.
Following up on this, the CBN commenced an aggressive nationwide sensitization to update the people on the need to pay in all old notes into their bank accounts to help them beat the deadline.
Meanwhile, the CBN has said that old notes which are not paid into the banks before January 31, 2023, will become invalid. It said that the bank has taken steps to ensure that everyone is able to meet the deadline, by ensuring that firstly, no charges are imposed on customers who want to pay any amount of money into the bank, and that banks will open even on Saturdays to ensure that no one missed the opportunity of paying their old notes into the bank.
Last week, officials of CBN took time to move round many markets in Anambra State to sensitise the people both on the deadline, the security features of the notes, the quality and the dangers of not accepting the notes as legal tenders.
Nollywood now telling stories for global audience – Stephen
An actress and filmmaker, Biodun Stephen, says the movie industry has started telling authentic Nigerian stories.
Speaking in an interview with Sunday Scoop, she said, “I think it is very clear that there has been growth in Nollywood. We have been taking steps up the ladder. The hunger is there now; not just to tell stories but authentic and quality Nigerian ones. These stories are not just for us, but for the global audience. The zeal, passion and technical know-how are there. The only thing that can stop us from climbing a few more steps on the ladder is if there is no funding, or if something happens in Nigeria.”
