The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thundery and rainy weather conditions across the country from Sunday to Tuesday.
According to NiMet’s weather outlook released on Saturday in Abuja, morning thunderstorms are expected on Sunday in parts of Gombe, Bauchi, Borno, Adamawa, Jigawa, Taraba, and Kaduna states. Later in the day, thunderstorms are likely to affect Zamfara, Kebbi, Kano, Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Katsina, Kaduna, Jigawa, Yobe, and Taraba states.

The agency predicts thunderstorms over central states such as Plateau, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Benue, and Niger in the morning, with similar weather conditions extending to Kogi, Niger, Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, and the FCT later in the day. Southern cities, including Imo, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Edo, Cross River, Bayelsa, and Lagos, are expected to experience morning rains, followed by thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening in parts of Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Imo, Ebonyi, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Lagos.
On Monday, early morning thunderstorms are anticipated over Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Jigawa, Taraba, and Kaduna states, with further thunderstorms expected in the afternoon and evening in Taraba, Adamawa, Zamfara, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kano, Bauchi, and Kaduna states.
Similarly, early morning thunderstorms are predicted for Plateau, the FCT, and Nasarawa states, while thunderstorms are likely to persist into the afternoon and evening in Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, and the FCT.
Morning rains are expected in Ekiti, Imo, and Cross River states, with prospects of afternoon and evening rains in Abia, Imo, Ekiti, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Rivers states.
By Tuesday, morning thunderstorms are expected over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Bauchi, and Kaduna states, with thunderstorms likely in the northern region later in the day. The FCT, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Niger states are expected to see morning thunderstorms, with the entire region potentially experiencing storms in the afternoon and evening. The southern region is forecast to have cloudy skies with morning rains over Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states, followed by afternoon and evening rains across the entire region.
NiMet advises the public to take adequate precautions as strong winds might precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely. The agency also urged airline operators to obtain updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet for effective planning of their operations.
