The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting thundery and rainy conditions across Nigeria from Sunday to Tuesday.

The outlook, released on Saturday, highlights varying weather patterns expected throughout the country.

On Sunday, thunderstorms are forecasted for parts of Borno, Jigawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, and Gombe States in the northern region during the morning. These storms are expected to continue over most of the region in the afternoon and evening. In the North Central region, including the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau States, morning thunderstorms with rain are anticipated. Later, thunderstorms and rain are expected to affect the entire region, with cloudy skies and intermittent rain forecasted for southern cities.

For Monday, NiMet predicts morning thunderstorms over parts of Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, Adamawa, Yobe, and Jigawa States. Thunderstorms are expected to persist in the northern region throughout the day. In the North Central region, including the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, Niger, and Kwara States, morning thunderstorms with rain are anticipated. Later, thunderstorms are expected over the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, and Niger States, with cloudy skies in southern states. Intermittent rain is forecasted for most southern regions during the afternoon and evening.

On Tuesday, morning thunderstorms are expected over Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Kaduna States in the northern region. Cloudy skies are predicted for the entire region later in the day. In the North Central region, thunderstorms with rain are forecasted for Niger and Kwara States in the morning. Thunderstorms with rain are expected over Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory, and Benue States during the afternoon and evening, while intermittent rain is expected across the southern region throughout the day.

NiMet has advised residents to avoid flood-prone areas due to the high risk of urban flooding from heavy rains. Strong winds may also accompany the thunderstorms.

The agency urges the public to follow safety advisories from relevant authorities and stay updated through NiMet’s website for the latest weather information.
