National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) has produced over 6000 medical consultants specialists serving in many key hospitals, Universities, Colleges of Medicine and research institutes in Nigeria and abroad.
The president of the College, Prof. Musa .M. Borodo, disclosed this during the opening ceremony of the 15th Annual Scientific Conference and All Fellows’ Congress( ASCAF) of the college held in Kaduna.
According to him, the college has also saved Nigeria Billions of Dollars that would have been spent in the training of personnel abroad.

He explained that the college established in 1979 (Cap.N59 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004) has continued to fulfil its mandate in postgraduate training activities of residents doctors despite the constraint imposed by the existing National pandemic protocol.
“Some of the strides taken by College in the last challenging one and a half years include facilitating the introduction of the optional PhD for clinicians in our universities and the introduction of the Postgraduate MD program in our College as well as the graduation of a total number of 643, Fellows, Postgraduate MD degrees holders by publication and Diplomates from our 15 Faculties during the 2020 convocation of our college which took place successfully by a hybrid of virtual and physical means in January this year”.
He, therefore, commended the Kaduna state Governor, Mal. Nasiru El-Rufai for accepting to host the conference in the state, which is proof of his dynamic leadership.
In his welcome address, the chairman local organizing committee, Prof. AbdulMumini Hassan Rafindadi, said this year Congress is unique in many ways because it was postponed from 2020 to 2021 due to the unprecedented covid-19 pandemic.
He added that this year Congress is also an opportunity for a hybrid of physical and virtual for the first time in the history of the college.
“ASCAF events are normally opportunities for Fellows from all over the country to gather in a location not only to hold scientific discussions but also to socialize, meet old and new friends and to renew friendships and to enjoy ourselves generally”.
“The ASCAF as a valued annual event has given medical consultants in the country opportunity to get to know each other at a close range, and to meet physically and interact with College officials and senior management staff of the College that we see only on paper, through SMS, GSM or email, and generally to diversify and widen our professional and social network”.
“The Theme for this year reflects the current COVID-19 pandemic: COVID19 Pandemic: Impact on the Economy and Health”, he said.
