The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, on Thursday in Akure trained senior officers on how to effectively discharge their statutory duties in consonance with extant laws.

Declaring the training open, NSCDC State Commandant Edenabu Eweka commended the senior management officers for their cooperation in making the second phase of the workshop a reality.

He said that the training had become necessary in line with the vision of the Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Audi, who pledged to reposition the corps and ensure a high level of professionalism in the discharge of its responsibilities.

According to him, the command will not relent in its determination to carry out the vision of the NSCDC Commandant General which is premised on training and re-training of officers for efficiency and effective service delivery.

“For effective leadership and coordination, it is very vital for senior officers of the command to undergo a legal training workshop, as this will enhance your performance.

“There is the urgent need to get acquainted with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, together with other relevant statutes and also refresh memories on the practical aspects of the corps mandate,” he said.

Mr Jonathan Olariche, the command’s Head of Operations, who spoke on behalf of all the participants, appreciated the state commandant for providing them the opportunity to add to their body of knowledge.

He pledged that the participants would do their best to justify the privilege.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the legal training witnessed the convergence of Deputy Commandants, Assistant Commandants, and Chief Superintendents who are Heads of Departments, Area Commanders, and heads of various Units of the Command.

NAN also reports that Mr Adedeji Olayiwola, the command’s Head of Legal Services, delivered lectures covering court procedures, statement taking, rights of defendants, bail, arrest and search, the principle of natural justice, differences between criminal and civil matters.

Others are customary laws and repugnancy tests and identification parades.

The session witnessed awards and presentation of certificates to all participants by the state commandant. (NAN)
