The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Tuesday began the second quarter, 2022 free medical treatment for rural dwellers in Farin-Ruwa community of Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.

The State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Aisha Tata -Muhammad, while opening the exercise, explained that the programme was captured under the NYSC’s Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) programme.

She said the free medical outreach was aimed at promoting the well-being of indigent persons at the grassroots by granting them easy access to free and quality health care.

Muhammad added that corps members, on HIRD platform, carried out diagnosis, treatment, including minor medical procedures, referral of patients, provision of drugs, eye glasses and other medical consumables.

According to her, since the inception of the programme, more than two million people benefitted from it across the country.

She explained that the scheme had donated 300 wheelchairs with the support of partners.

In a remark, the member representing Bagwai/Shanono Federal Constituency, Alhaji Yusuf Badau, represented by Alhaji Sunusi Umar, applauded the commitment of the corps members.

He assured of his support for the well-being of the people of his constituency.

Adamu Buba, a beneficiary, said that he was grateful to the NYSC for the free medical outreach.

Another beneficiary, Zainab Musa, also commended NYSC for the scheme.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the the programme was initiated in 2014.
