The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has extended the service period of three members who served in Sokoto State for abscondment and misconduct.

The NYSC Coordinator in the state, Alhaji Usman Yakubu-Yaro, disclosed this while issuing certificates to the 2023 Batch ‘A’ Stream 2 youth corps members on Thursday.

Yakubu-Yaro said NYSC has zero-tolerance for truancy, and would not hesitate to punish erring youth corps member.

He added that out of 618 youth corps members who completed the one-year mandatory service, 351 are males, while 267 females, who displayed commendable character during the year.

He added that a male and female have been shortlisted for the Sultan of Sokoto Meritorious Award for their outstanding contributions to the development of the state during the service year.

The coordinator, who said that the scheme posted high number of youth corps members to schools to teach, as well as medical personnel to rural areas, stressed that those are areas where they are mostly needed.

He urged the outgoing youth corps members to be good ambassadors of the scheme wherever they found themselves and advised them to utilise the skills acquired during the service year, stressing that white collar jobs are not easy to find these days.

He thanked the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, for the awards to the two best NYSC members in every batch posted to the state.
