The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has visited the victims of the recent mosque explosion in Gezawa town of Kano state, which claimed at least 16 lives.

Daily News 24 reports that last week, a 38-year-old man, had used a petrol bomb to attack a mosque in Gadan village of Gezawa town, where at least 24 worshippers sustained serious burn injuries.

Mr Abubakar had reportedly told police that his motive to attack the worshippers arose from his anger over what he described as “unjust sharing of an inheritance.”

On Sunday, Mr Obi visited the surviving victims of the attack at Murtala Muhammad specialist hospital Kano on Sunday, where commiserated with them and also condoled families of deceased victims.

Mr Obi, who described the arson attack as “senseless violent killing”, also commended the quick response of the fire service and other security agencies.

He also commiserated with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as well as the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero.

According to him, “This is very horrific and remains very condemnable. It’s sad this can happen in our nation today. Nobody can say why this young boy can do a thing like this to his own family members and the society.

“We remain in solidarity condemning such act at the people. My reason for coming here is to show that solidarity and support in their care in one way or the other and the hospital management in what they are doing and again condemn this senseless act of violent killing.

“We therefore condoled with the government and the good people of Kano as well urged all as a country to stand together in fighting such a senseless act”

Vanguard also reports that the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Husseini Muhammad said a total of 23 victims were received in the hospital out which 15 have passed away while eight were remaining and receiving medical treatment.

Muhammad commended the LP Presidential Candidate for the visit which according to him signifies the unity and oneness of the country.

However, seven of the patients were seen in Surgical Ward C while one was in critical condition in Mother ICU of the hospital.

He advised that Nigerians should come together to stand against such act and urged the authority to bring the perpetrator of such heinous crime to justice.
