Stanley Omah Didia, better known as Omah Lay, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter.
The 25 year-old, was born in Nigeria’s Port Harcourt. He is from Ikwerre in Rivers State’s Rivers Local Government Area. He attended Rivers State Comprehensive High School before enrolling at the University of Port Harcourt.
His grandfather played instruments for singer Celestine Ukwu before he died in 1977, and he comes from a musical family. Lay’s father was a drummer.
Music career
Omah Lay began his music career in his early teens as a rapper under the stage name Lil King. In 2019, he began learning how to produce music. He, on the other hand, felt he wasn’t getting enough credit for his work and decided to take the stage instead.
In the same year, he was able to record and release his first tracks, ‘Hello brother’ and ‘Do not disturb,’ which became popular on local radio stations. This landed him a contract with a record label, KeyQaad, in Lagos state in July 2019.
Lay was the first artist highlighted for Apple’s Africa Rising Campaign to highlight African talent on July 3, 2020. He was named to BBC Radio 1Xtra’s annual “Hot for 2021” list in December 2020.
He was the first African artist to be featured on Audiomack’s #Up Now program for emerging artists; he was named one of the “20 artists to watch in 2021” by the Montreux Jazz Festival, and he was named BET’s Amplified International Artist of the Month for November 2020. In Nigeria, he is currently signed to Dvpper Music Distribution, and for international distribution, he is signed to Sire Records.
At the 2020 Headies Awards, he was nominated in four categories and won the Next Rated award.

Controversy
Lay and Tems were arrested on December 14, 2020, after performing in a show in Uganda. The arrests were made due to a violation of COVID-19 lockdown protocols, according to Ugandan police. The artists believed they had been set up. The two were released two days later after the Ugandan government apologized for their arrests and cleared them of any wrongdoing.
