A member of Kano Science Schools Old Students Association (KASSOSA), Class 2012 Umar Idris Shuaibu, has revealed that Gawuna’s administration is the Kano youth’s best chance at re-centering themselves in Kano politics.

Considering his antecedents as regards respect for diversity and sensitivity to inclusion as Nassarawa LGA Chairman, Gawuna is reputed to be one of the few Local Government Chairmen who worked in synergy to actualize youth inclusion in politics, at the time – when it was unsexy to do so. Gawuna showed his expansiveness as Deputy Governor.

And over the years, he has shown an aspect of himself as a man who will put his feet down and ensure things work. Gawuna would turn the fortunes of the Kano state around for good.

I believe Gawuna is the only candidate who enjoys plural support across the 44 local government areas of the state. So, it is only logical that the consciences and interests of the Kano youth are mobilized behind him.

I thought by now the Kano youth must have learned from the perils of political naivety. It is imprudent of a group of strangers in Kano to declare publicly that they are not in support of Gawuna’s Gubernatorial ambition. This was the same path these strangers took in 2011 against some gubernatorial candidates which resulted in the political blackballing of the Kano Elders and traditional rulers.

I suggest, they should be fair and equitable in their support for their candidates, what is sauce for the goose should be sauce for the gander. Scorched-earth politics will only leave the land barren.

Traditional rulers in the state, could have been neutral or stayed aloof. They could have also deployed tact in managing all political interests without publicly showing a preference for any.

The Kano youth must cast their net wide and consider some possible outcomes. The APC and its Gubernatorial candidate are options they must explore. Going all head in politics is injudicious.

We should be wary of repeating the same mistakes of 2019. We must not let our emotions color our reality. We must not walk starry-eyed into political Siberia. We must not attempt another hara-kiri.

Overvoting and violence is not viable vehicle to ride to victory. It is a rustled-up contraption without deep roots across the country.

Our youth in Kano regaining their place means it must look beyond solitary candidates. We must put ourselves in the thick of things at the center and play real politics. To sit at the table, it must wrest itself from the enchantment of the strangers of their candidate. We go all in and throw all in but get nothing out.

Gawuna is strategic. He will make his administration beneficial to the Youth.

Youth will be the biggest beneficiaries of Gawuna’s administration.

Dr. Gawuna would reach out to the Kano traditional rulers, Ulamas, political leaders, and everyday citizens with intentions and plans of bringing them into one composite fold where all Kano citizens can exist under justice, equity, peace, and harmony.
