Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his presidential ambition ahead of the forthcoming 2023 general election.

Sources say the VP told the president of his desire to take over from him at the expiration of his tenure in 2023 to consolidate the achievements they recorded since they took over from the opposition PDP in 2015.

With the intent, which had not been made public, the vice president will struggle for the ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) with the likes of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who had a few months ago visited the Presidential Villa where he told Buhari of his intention to succeed him.

According to The Guardian,  a group under the auspices of Osinbajo Youth Organisation (OYO) said the Vice President has agreed to declare his bid after the party’s March 26 convention.

Director-General of the group, Salahaddeen Shuaibu, at a press conference in Abuja, on Saturday, said: “I can confidently tell you that the Vice President has agreed to declare to run for the office of president immediately after the APC convention in March.”

He added: “Even if Osinbajo declines, we will compel him to run because Nigeria is in dire need of good leadership. Nigeria is thirsty and hungry for good leadership that citizens would be proud of.” (Guardian)
