On Saturday, the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, narrowly escaped death when a speeding truck collided with two vehicles in his convoy.
The incident occurred shortly after the governor and some of his commissioners boarded a black Mercedes bus after attending a wedding at Agga Mosque in Yola’s highbrow Dougirei neighborhood.
The tipper truck crushed two vehicles in the convoy, injuring two police officers, Inspector Madu and Sergeant Isa.
The truck driver was able to steer the speeding truck away from the direction of the governor’s bus, causing it to collide with the official vehicle of the permanent secretary, Political and Security Affairs at the government house, as well as a Peugeot 406 carrying a video journalist and the two injured policemen.
Police escorts quickly manhandled and detained both the elderly driver and a young man who pleaded with them to be gentle with him. The driver was thrown into a police van and driven to the Jimeta Police Division in the city.
However, the governor, who was unharmed, personally rebuked the driver before being hurriedly transferred to a Toyota jeep and leaving the scene.
This comes just one day after the Governor won a legal victory when the Supreme Court overturned a case challenging his 2023 governorship candidacy.
