The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said the purported suspension of its former acting National Chairman and former governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, by his ward is not consistent with its constitution and as such is null and void and of no effect.
The PDP ward executives of Tudun Ward in Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna had suspended Makarfi over alleged anti-party activities.
But the party’s national body, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said only the National Executive Committee (NEC) can entertain and discipline a NEC member.
He said the decision of the ward executive of Tudun Wada ward cannot stand.
Ologunagba said: “The NWC, after a thorough consideration of all the issues raised by the ward executive, hereby declares the purported decision and action of the Tudun Wada Ward Executives, which borders on issues of discipline, as null and void and of no effect, not being consistent with the provisions of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017).
“The NWC therefore charges all leaders, critical stakeholders, members, teeming supporters of our party in Kaduna State, and the general public to disregard the purported suspension of Senator Makarfi by the Ward for being a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our party.”
