Crisis in the Labour Party is becoming grimmer with the Kano Governorship Candidate, Bashir I. Bashir and his followers registering their displeasure of alleged non-inclusives and disregard by the party at National Level.
Daily News 24 reports that the Labour Party Kano Governorship Candidate and his followers boycotted a rally conducted by the party’s Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi at the Sabongari stadium in the state.
The Labour party governorship candidate while addressing newsmen during a joint press conference held at Mambayya House in Kano metropolis disclosed that the converged to make consultation against the brewing crisis bedeviling the party.
Engr. Bashir while talking about how relevant he is and his supporters from the 44 local government areas of Kano stated that, when he joined the party “it was just an empty shell.”
“When my political associates, teeming followers, and supporters took a Leap of Faith to join our party, not because of any Individual or group of individuals. It was because we thought Labour Party would give us what we were denied in the party we left at the state level coming to Labour Party, these issues we ran away from are gradually manifesting as we approach the elections.”
Reacting on the reasons they boycotted the Presidential rally conducted by Peter Obi, he said;
“Our views are not sought out, our opinions are not taken, and our voices are not heard. When we joined Labour The party in Kano was just a shell. We revived it.”
“When we got information on the proposed venue for the Rally, I advised strongly against it for fear of being further leveled as a sectional candidate. And when I did a memo to the VP candidate and copied Mr Obi, the PCC chairman as well as the BOT chairman, my advice was neither acknowledged nor appreciated. This and many other factors made me, as the Gubernatorial candidate and leader of the party in the state, call for a meeting where the decision to boycott the rally was unanimously taken”, he added.
Bashir urges his teaming supporters to remain calm as their position would soon be announced.
The Labour Party supporters in Kano fear that if the non-inclusiveness and disregard continues, it may affect chances of the party winning the forthcoming polls in the state.
