The Police Command in Adamawa has arrested 44 suspected criminals and recovered arms and ammunition from them.
Mr Sikiru Akande, Commissioner of Police in the state made this known in Yola on Monday while briefing newsmen.
Akande said that the suspects were arrested for various offences ranging from kidnapping, culpable homicide, rape, theft and other violent crimes.
He said the command had recovered five AK-47 rifles, pistols, locally made single barrel gun, two rounds of live ammunition, laptop, computer accessories, two vehicles and  jerricans of engine oil.
Others include; cartons of hydraulic oil, handsets, generator, television and other electronic gadgets, cutlass, knife, a tricycle and car windscreen.
“Police operatives drawn from the Crack squad, Special Rapid Response  Squad, Criminal Investigation Department and the divisional Police headquarters have been directed to carry out a tactical and intelligence-driven dusk to dawn raids of criminal hideouts,” he added.
Akande assured that the command would not allow space for any group of persons to tamper with the peace of the state, saying that the police was ready for all emerging security challenges.
“We will not relent in our duty of protecting the lives and properties of all law abiding citizens and we will redouble effort to apprehend those criminals at large” he said.
The police commissioner appealed to the general public to provide useful information to security agencies, to effectively tackle crimes in the state.
Akande urged politicians to be decent and law abiding during campaigns and other political gatherings.
He assured that the police was committed to the peaceful conduct of political activities in the state. (NAN)
