The Kano State Police Command has issued a stern warning to residents, cautioning against any form of street protests, as the command is prepared to deal decisively with anyone violating the order.
The warning was delivered by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, during the parade of arrested criminals at the Command’s headquarters in Bompai, Kano, on Monday.

Haruna emphasized that the police would not tolerate a repeat of the violence witnessed during the recent #EndBadGovernance protests in the state.
“On the forthcoming Independence Day celebration on 1 October 2024, the Police Command has concluded all necessary arrangements to provide adequate security during and after the event period. I, therefore, urge all Kano State residents to cooperate with the Police as well as other security agencies and participate in the Independence Day celebration responsibly, adhering to all safety guidelines and respecting the rights of others,” Haruna said.
He further stated that security deployments had been made across strategic locations in the state to prevent any security threats, especially in response to the alleged planned nationwide protest on October 1.
“We have to appreciate the fact that all forms of crime are reducing drastically,” Haruna added.
Regarding the arrest of suspects, Haruna revealed that 89 individuals had been apprehended for various offenses, including kidnapping, human trafficking, armed robbery, drug dealing, and forgery. These arrests were made at different locations across the state between September 12 and the present. Out of the 89 suspects, 53 have already been charged to court, while 36 remain under investigation.
Haruna also highlighted the Command’s efforts under the directives of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, focusing on community-oriented and intelligence-led policing. The initiative includes extensive community engagement, intelligence-driven operations, and round-the-clock patrols to swiftly respond to emergencies and prevent crime.
He noted that these operations had yielded significant results, with the Command making substantial progress in combating crime and enhancing public safety in Kano State.
