The Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, has refuted allegations that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is an asset of the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
Journalist David Hundeyin had made the assertion, citing a recent court filing involving the CIA, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Hundeyin stated, “The agencies filed a memorandum opposing our motion for summary judgment in the FOIA disclosure case about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s drug trafficking investigation records.” He argued that this move confirmed that “Nigeria’s sitting president is an active CIA asset.”
An excerpt from the CIA’s filing explained the potential consequences of officially acknowledging an individual as an asset. “Confirming or denying the existence of records on a particular foreign national, like Tinubu, could reasonably be expected to cause damage to U.S. national security. It would indicate whether the CIA maintained any human intelligence sources related to Tinubu and reveal the extent of access such sources had to intelligence concerning him,” the CIA stated.
In response, Olusegun dismissed the claim, comparing it to previous allegations against Tinubu. On his social media platform, X, Olusegun remarked, “They told you he was a lady, you believed. They told you Yorubas don’t bear Tinubu, you believed. They told you he can’t be allowed into the US, you believed. They told you his name is not his name, you believed. Now they brought another one. Here you are as usual. Tragic.”
