“Al-Istiqama and Maryam Abacha University of Nigeria are like twins, hence, must assist each other. MAUN is always ready to extend its hands of fellowship to Al-Istiqama whenever the need arises.
“Initially, the founder of the university wanted to establish a school of health technology, but when he consulted me, I advised him to broaden his initiative and go for a university and here we are today. Our dream has come to reality.
“The people of Sumaila and indeed Kano state should thank Hon. Sumaila for his foresight. This gigantic project will not only benefit Kawu Sumaila but the people of Sumaila, Kano and Nigeria in general. The proprietor of the institution has proven himself as true patriotic.
Professor Gwarzo, who thanked Allah Almighty for making the university real, said “only God can reward Hon Sumaila for the wonderful job he did for the humanity. The institution will be beneficial to Kano state and Nigeria as a whole.”
In his remarks, the Proprietor of Al-Istiqama University, Hon Abdulrahman Sulaiman Kawu Sumaila, said the 160-room capacity hostel will be completed by next year.
Sumaila explained the hostel is being constructed to complement the existing ones, saying the institution has provided two big hostels for female and male students.
“We have already admitted 400 students for various courses and 100 others for the Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) Examination,” he said.
He added that the under-construction hostel was named after professor Gwarzo for his immense contribution to education sub-sector and humanity, saying “we have honored Gwarzo not because of our existing relationship but for his contribution to education sector and the youth.”
