Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi has been designated as the acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja in the Federal Capital Territory.
The 41-year-old Professor of International Law’s appointment was disclosed during a valedictory Senate meeting held on the university campus in Abuja.
Having previously served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academics, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, clarified that Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi’s interim appointment is subject to approval by the Governing Council, as he nears the end of his tenure in three days.

Expressing gratitude to the Senate members for their confidence in her, Maikudi gracefully accepted the position. “I want to extend my deepest respect and appreciation to you all for the strong support and unwavering commitment that you have accorded me,” she remarked.
Born on January 31, 1983, in Zaria, Kaduna State, she obtained her West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Maikudi pursued higher education at the University of Reading and the London School of Economics in the United Kingdom following secondary school, earning her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Master of Laws (LLM) degrees, respectively. She furthered her studies at the Nigeria Law School, Abuja, for her call to the Bar and completed her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law at the University of Abuja.
Joining the University of Abuja in 2008 as a Lecturer, Aisha achieved significant milestones: becoming the first female and youngest Head of the Department, Faculty of Law in 2014; the first female and youngest Deputy Dean, Faculty of Law in 2018; and the pioneer Director of the University of Abuja.
A member of several professional associations, including the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the Nigerian Law Teachers Association (NLTA), and the International Federation of Women Lawyers (IFWL), Aisha Maikudi remains dedicated to advancing legal education and practice.
