A Lecturer with Air Force Institute of Technology, Professor Samaila Umaru has tasked Nigerian engineers to key into the prospects of digital revolution by innovating competitively to ensure that the nation and the African continent did not lose out on the growth and development opportunities being offered by the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Prof. Umaru gave the charge in a lecture he delivered at the 2022 world Engineering Day celebration organized by Nigerian Society of Engineers(NSE) in collaboration with Incubation Center, Kaduna.

He noted that the extant industrial revolution characterised by the dominance of the Internet and a fusion of technologies was reshaping and changing the world at a fast rate, adding that Nigeria could not afford to miss out as it did in the previous technological revolutions.

Describing engineering as the foundation for development, technological advancement and national transformation, the Don further stated that the nation has vast natural endowments to support the development of alternative and renewable energy sources.

He however called on NSE to address key challenges facing the society, among which are; need for re-organization, considering innovation and practice for membership not only course of study and enforcement of presidential order 10 on local content.

On the way forward, he charged the society to be involve in Knowledge-based economy, saying Education need to be functional, technical skill and apprenticeship are to be taken serious.

In her welcome address, the Chairman NSE, Kaduna state branch, Engr. Racheal Ugye said the 2022 world engineering day for sustainable development is a day set aside to celebrates engineering and contribution of engineers for better and more sustainable world.

She said this year theme,’ Build back wiser, Engineering the future’ offers an opportunity to highlight engineers and engineering achievements and also improve public awareness on impact of Engineering.

Engr. Ugye said, “Kaduna state branch of NSE organized this celebration with a focus on innovation. Institutions, organizations and individuals are invited to showcase their innovations today.

“We are collaborating with the Technology Incubation Centre Kaduna to avail our innovators with excellent ideas/projects to be nurtured by them up to commercialization stage”.
