Members of the public, dignitaries and Education experts gathered on Saturday in Kano for the presentation of two books authored by Professor Adamu Baike CON.
The books, titled ‘Nigerian Education: Ivory Towers and Other Issues’ and ‘Sabongari: The Simmering Melting Pot of Kano State’, shed light on the challenges plaguing Nigeria’s education system while offering viable solutions to pave the way for the country’s alignment with global educational benchmarks.
According to the author the books where introduced to address critical issues within the Nigerian education sector and to catalyze its for change.
Professor Tijjani Ismail remarked that the 243-page book, divided into 13 comprehensive chapters, delved into the challenge in the educational system and it book provides valuable insights into avenues for improvement, drawing from the author’s experiences.
In a similar vein, Prince Maimayetan Ajayi, in his evaluation of the second book centered on Sabon-Gari, highlighted the book’s extensive analysis of Sabon Gari.
He said the 306 page book into sheds light on Sabon-Gari’s unique character as a locality that has accommodated diverse cultural groups from across the nation in harmonious coexistence for several decades.
During the event, Professor Olubemiro Jegede, Chairman of the occasion, underscored the need for a comprehensive reevaluation of Nigeria’s national education policy.
He acknowledged that although the education sector has achieved certain successes, it has remained relatively stagnant over the years.
According to him “The national policy on education which was written in the sixties no longer fits the current educational needs of the country, therefore it needs to be totally thrown away and develop a new policy that will reflect the current reality, in alignment with global best standards.”
